Understanding Longtail Keywords


A keyword phrase that has very low search volume is what we called longtail keyword. One thing that’s important to remember is that a longtail keyword isn’t necessarily defined by the amount of traffic it brings you; but rather the amount of searches for the keyword. 
For example, users might type in “jeans” into a search engine and find 10 top ranked articles offering jeans and related information.  The results shown on the top two pages are the popular one and mostly big companies own the site so the chances to get on top page very hard because the competition is very high. However, looking at the other type of users who are looking for something specific is your key to get on top. These folks don't want general information, but rather specifics about a topic they have chosen.  User might type very specific like " best blue color jag jean".  So, if  you're going to write an article  for a long tail keyword make sure to target those audience.

Don't always rely on your own instinct, but rather remember to try and think like your customer. You can use the research tool, or your own guesstimates (though keyword research comparisons are recommended) or perhaps even scout competing websites, or customer forums. This is a logic for keyword researchers—why do we compete with a huge crowd when you can make more income by specific long tail keywords?  This is a matter of analyzing the best long tail keyword for your website and by doing that you should know how to use Keyword Tool.
